Movements

This section collates various social movements I have documented in their struggles for a better world.

Bibby Stockholm in Falmouth

In May to July 2023 the Bibby Stockholm prison barge for asylum seekers was docked in Falmouth, Cornwall, and local activists turned out from across the county to protest its refit at the dry dock.

STRAW

Plymouth had been making national news for the council’s decision to fell over 100 mature healthy trees in the historic city centre, and its running battles with Save The Trees Armada Way, a grassroots campaign of local residents. Luckily I had my camera with me, returning to Plymouth by coach on the morning of the trees being felled, so I caught the gloomy aftermath.

The World Transformed

From 2018 through to the present, I have been snapping TWT festivals, including their local chapter offshoots in Bristol, Cornwall and beyond.

Easter Regatta

On Easter Sunday 2024, the National Bargee Traveller’s Association held a daylong regatta and protest against the Canal and River Trust’s attempts to price boaters out of the waterways of London as it undergoes further gentrification.

Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club

The trade union Equity convening a rally to save the queer community venue Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club from closure.
